IT FIELD TECHNICIAN – SYRACUSE / CNY

About BlueTower Technical
BlueTower Technical Inc. is a managed IT services provider (MSP) serving healthcare and dental practices and other businesses across Western and Central New York. We’re expanding our coverage on the Central NY / Syracuse side and hiring an IT Field Technician to be our local presence there — traveling to client sites for installations, cabling, workstation setups, and on-site troubleshooting. You’d be set up like our existing Buffalo satellite office: your own company van and expense card, owning your region. You’ll ramp up with training alongside our experienced field team (including time at our Rochester and Buffalo offices), so you’re set up to succeed from day one.  We keep our clients’ technology running — networks, workstations, phones, and infrastructure — and we show up on site as the face of the company. We’ve been doing this since 2001 — 25 years — but we still operate scrappy, like a startup: small enough that your work genuinely matters, and established enough that the clients are real and the paycheck is solid.

Position Summary
We’re hiring a Field Technician to travel to client sites and perform hands-on IT work: workstation deployments, structured cabling and low-voltage wiring, network and phone hardware installs, and general troubleshooting. This is a client-facing role — you are BlueTower in the room, so professionalism and reliability matter as much as technical skill.

Employment type: Full-time
Location / travel: Syracuse / CNY -based. Most work will be in the Syracuse / CNY region, with occasional travel to Greater Rochester area for training and servicing our wider service region — roughly the Buffalo-to-Syracuse corridor and the communities north and south. Company vehicle provided, with gas and travel expenses covered, so the miles are on us.
Reports to: Technical Service Manager
Compensation: $25–$27/hour, depending on experience (we can go higher for an exceptional candidate and flex lower for an entry-level hire we train up) + benefits

Key Responsibilities
– Travel to client sites to perform installations, equipment setups, and service calls.
– Deploy and configure workstations, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
– Run, terminate, and test structured cabling and low-voltage wiring (Cat5e/Cat6, patch panels, jacks).
– Install and connect network hardware — switches, wireless access points, firewalls, routers.
– Set up and provision VoIP desk phones and related telecom equipment.
– Perform general hardware/software troubleshooting and diagnostics on site.
– Document work performed, time, and materials in the ticketing system.
– Communicate clearly with clients on site and represent BlueTower professionally.
– Coordinate with the help desk / remote team to escalate or hand off issues.
– Maintain vehicle stock, tools, and inventory; account for company equipment.

Required Qualifications
– 1+ years of hands-on IT, field service, A/V, or low-voltage cabling experience (or equivalent training).
– Solid PC hardware, Windows, and basic networking knowledge (IPs, switches, Wi-Fi, cabling).
Valid driver’s license and a clean, insurable driving record (driving is daily and essential).
– Comfortable lifting equipment, using ladders, and working in tight spaces (closets, under desks, ceilings).
– Strong customer-facing communication and a reliable, punctual, professional presence.
– Able to pass a background check (clients include healthcare/dental practices).

Preferred Qualifications
– CompTIA A+ and/or Network+ certification.
– Experience in an MSP or multi-client service environment.
– Structured cabling / low-voltage experience or licensing.
– VoIP phone provisioning experience (e.g., Polycom/Yealink).
– Familiarity with healthcare/dental IT environments and HIPAA awareness; bonus for imaging
systems (e.g., Carestream) or practice-management software exposure.

Physical & Work Conditions
– Frequent driving and travel between sites throughout the workday.
– Lifting up to ~50 lbs; bending, kneeling, ladder work, and tight-space access.
– Occasional after-hours or weekend work for scheduled installs/cutovers – when applicable

What We Offer
Health and dental insurance and a 401(k) with company match — we invest in your future, not just your present.
Paid time off with a minimum of two weeks’ vacation, plus paid holidays.
– A company vehicle and a company credit card for gas and travel expenses — your costs on the road are on us.
Flexible pay and flexible scheduling, with bonuses for on-call and after-hours work.
– A fully stocked break room at our HQ in Rochester — snacks, cold drinks, and good coffee, on us.
Hands on the latest and greatest technology — you’ll work with the gear and tools most shops only read about.
Training and mentorship from our experienced field team — you’ll ramp up alongside a senior tech, not get thrown to the wolves.
– Hands-on variety, a tight-knit team, and a path to grow into senior/network roles.
