About the role
BlueTower Technical Inc. is a Rochester-based managed IT and technology services provider with a busy in-house low-voltage division — and we’re growing it. We’re hiring a Low Voltage / Electronic Security Technician to install, service, and troubleshoot low-voltage and electronic-security systems at client and job sites: fire alarm, security/burglar alarm, CCTV and network cameras, access control and card access, and structured cabling. This is hands-on, physical, independent work for someone who takes pride in a clean, well-dressed install and can read a set of plans and make it happen. We’ve been at this since 2001 (25 years) — but we still run scrappy, like a startup, where your work genuinely matters.
What you’ll do
- Install, service, and troubleshoot fire alarm, security/burglar alarm, CCTV/camera, and access-control systems
- Run, terminate, test, and dress structured cabling — Cat5e/Cat6, fiber, patch panels, jacks; mount and dress equipment racks
- Read blueprints and floor plans to determine the best layout for components and wiring
- Work across commercial, residential, and industrial environments — ladders, aerial lifts, attics, crawlspaces, ceilings
- Respond to repair and service calls; test systems and troubleshoot faults on site
- Coordinate installs with clients and train them on how to use their new system
- Work independently and stay on task with minimal oversight
- Document work, time, and materials; keep a clean, safe job site
What you bring (required)
- 1+ year of low-voltage or electronic-security experience — hands-on with at least one of: fire alarm, security alarm, access control/card access, or CCTV/cameras (several is even better). Solid trade training counts.
- Hands-on with cable pulls, terminations, testing, and cable management
- Ability to read blueprints/floor plans and work from installation specs
- Valid driver’s license — driving is daily and essential to the role
- Comfortable with ladders, lifts, drilling, physical work, and tight spaces; able to lift ~50 lbs
- Self-starter who can troubleshoot on the spot; strong customer-facing communication; reliable and professional
Big pluses (preferred)
- Broad experience across fire alarm, security, access control, and cameras
- A NYS Security & Fire Alarm Installer license — or eligibility for a Master Electrician waiver — is a major plus. Not required; we’ll support the right person in getting licensed.
- BICSI training/certification; OSHA 10 / OSHA 30
- Fiber termination/splicing experience; low-voltage license
- AV install experience; familiarity with healthcare/dental environments and HIPAA awareness
Travel
Most work runs the Buffalo-to-Syracuse corridor and the communities north and south of it, with occasional out-of-state travel as jobs require. Company vehicle provided — gas and travel expenses are on us.
